Free STEM Event Thurs. Aug. 21st

The Dahlgren Heritage Museum is pleased to announce its next free STEM session for local 3rd to 6th graders (limited to the first 15 students who register). STEM champion and experienced instructor Dr. Daniel Wallace (Retired NAVSEA Human Factor Technical Warrant Holder) will lead a multifaceted demonstration designed to:

• Spark curiosity and interest in STEM, making science and technology engaging and fun through visually appealing and interactive demonstrations.

• Introduce basic scientific concepts, providing concrete examples to help students understand abstract ideas.

• Develop observational skills, encouraging students to pay attention to details and make predictions based on their observations.

• Promote inquiry-based learning, encouraging students to ask questions and explore the "why" behind scientific phenomena.

• Show the relevance of STEM in everyday life, connecting STEM concepts to real-world applications that students can relate to.

• Foster a growth mindset, demonstrating that science is a process of exploration, experimentation, and learning from mistakes.

The session will cover a range of exciting topics, including:

•  Non-Destructive Tests & Inferences

•  Liquid Nitrogen Demonstrations

• Psychological Demonstrations

•  Visual Demonstrations

Parents/guardians are welcome to wait at the museum or to return for pickup at 7:30 p.m. Adults are asked to sign a consent form for photos to be used by the museum. The event is free, but donations to the museum are appreciated.
