About the event
For the Dahlgren Heritage Museum's second free 2024 STEM session, which will be held on February 22nd from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the museum, the first fifteen 2nd-7th graders to register will participate in demonstrations as they learn about matter and its three main states.
Anything that has mass is made up of matter - an all-encompassing word for atoms and molecules that make up our physical world. Most students are familiar with the three states or phases in which matter exists: solids, liquids, and gases. Guided by STEM instructor Dr. Erica Borgers-Klonkowski, a bio-chemist at NSWCDD, the demonstrations will highlight the phase changes as the main learning objective.
Parents/guardians are welcome to wait at the museum or to return for pickup at 6:35-6:40 p.m. (The museum is locked for safety during the event.) Adults are asked to sign a consent form for photos to be used by the museum. The event is free, but donations to the museum are welcomed.
